Job Description
We ares responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of Early Childhood and Preschool programs. This position ensures that all students meet or exceed the Department of Education's Core Curriculum Content Standards, Early Childhood Framework Standards (EFQ), and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF). The Director will work collaboratively with staff to foster an environment of excellence, and will also engage effectively with families, community members, and colleagues across districts and schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning Environment Management:
Stay current with the latest research, curriculum, evaluation tools, and pedagogy to enhance the learning environment.
Implement NYS Common Core/EFQ performance/quality standards, policies, regulations, and guidelines in the daily operation of early childhood programs (ages 2-5).
Work with educators to develop a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and tailored to the needs of all students.
Support educators in creating and maintaining a well-organized, safe, and inviting learning space that promotes optimal growth and development.
Ensure the implementation of CLASS and ECERS standards, evaluating educators based on these criteria.
Oversee the creation of a scholar-centered program that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each student.
Collaborate with staff to implement interdisciplinary units of study, promoting a holistic learning experience.
Ensure the facility remains safe and in good condition, facilitating a healthy environment for both students and staff.
Coordinate referrals and services for students with special needs, collaborating with relevant agencies.
Support staff attendance and ensure a consistent, engaged learning environment.
Manage the program's budget and ensure fiscal responsibility.
Provide mentorship and guidance to educators and staff to foster professional growth.
Conduct regular classroom observations, offering constructive feedback to educators.
Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and marketing of the program, including community outreach and social media efforts.
Work alongside educators to maintain high standards in curriculum development and teaching practices.
Respond to procedural questions and ensure clarity in all communication.
Lead the hiring process for educators and staff, ensuring they align with program goals and values.
Review and adjust learning materials and instructional objectives based on student progress.
Demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills, effectively motivating staff and fostering a positive environment.
Ensure safe working conditions and the proper use of equipment.
Support and Assessment of Teaching Staff:
Supervise teaching and support staff, ensuring all responsibilities are fulfilled and exceeded.
Regularly evaluate lesson plans and observe classroom activities.
Create quarterly progress reports to track staff development and performance.
Provide weekly staff development opportunities, including workshops, conferences, and peer-led sessions.
Effectively communicate with staff, families, and the community, using appropriate language, visuals, and tone.
Oversee the implementation and monitoring of remote learning tools like Class Dojo and Zoom.
Coordinate support services for students facing learning challenges, collaborating with school and community resources.
Assist with developmental, behavioral, and sensory screenings (Ages and Stages) in compliance with state regulations.
Support educators in developing daily lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.
Establish performance goals and objectives for staff and students.
Substitute for teachers or assistants as needed to ensure continuity in the program.
Maintain detailed records of each student's progress to guide future planning.
Ensure that educators document children's growth using Teaching Strategies GOLD or other authentic assessment tools.
Assist educators in creating individualized goals for students to address their unique needs.
Support the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
Conduct regular parent-teacher conferences to discuss each child's progress.
Observe students regularly to assess their skills and interests, using this information to enhance the learning experience.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for both staff and students.
Protect the confidentiality of all records and shared information, adhering to professional standards.
Ensure timely completion of all necessary documentation and reports in compliance with regulations.
Participate in staff interviews and make recommendations for new hires.
Provide orientation and training for new staff, substitutes, and volunteers.
Collaborate with the Program Director to review and assess curriculum effectiveness.
Attend staff meetings, in-service training, and professional development opportunities.
Stay informed about the latest developments in early childhood education through reading, conferences, and professional organizations.
Lead curriculum development and ensure the program reflects the latest research on early childhood learning and development.
Represent the program at Board of Education and administrative meetings.
Attend required meetings and serve on committees to support the overall goals of the program.
Summarize and share important developments in teaching and learning through professional literature and conferences.
Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality, ensuring consistency for students and educators.
Family Support:
Foster positive relationships with families, keeping them informed about their child's progress.
Coordinate family involvement in the program and organize family engagement activities.
Help families understand the curriculum and find ways to extend learning beyond the classroom.
Create or review newsletters to keep families informed about program updates and events.
Identify and provide resources to support families in enhancing their child's learning at home.
Plan and coordinate family support sessions, focusing on learning strategies, care, and nutrition.
Work with community leaders to offer guidance and support to the program.
Build a strong relationship with each child to support their emotional development and self-esteem.
Assist students in developing adaptive skills, such as toileting and other self-care needs.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Expertise in early childhood development and growth.
Familiarity with Pre-K and 3K curricula and funding regulations.
Proficiency with remote learning platforms, including Zoom and Class Dojo.
Strong leadership and teamwork abilities.
Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
Ability to motivate staff and resolve problems effectively.
Experience with data collection and computerized management systems.
